Gluten Free Croque Monsieur

Rich, decadent, and undeniably French, the Croque Monsieur is the ultimate café-style toasted sandwich you can make at home. With layers of smoky ham, creamy béchamel, and gooey melted cheese, all tucked between slices of Well and Good Buckwheat & Chia Bread, it’s a golden, bubbling indulgence that’s perfect for lunch, brunch, or a fancy snack.

Buckwheat Chia Croque Monsieur Squrare Product Pack

Makes: 1 sandwich

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Well and Good Buckwheat & Chia Bread
  • Butter (for outer sides)
  • 1 tbsp thick béchamel sauce (plus 1 tbsp extra for topping)
  • Dijon mustard
  • 2 slices ham
  • 1 slice Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp grated cheddar (for top)
  • Continental parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Assembly

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  2. Spread béchamel and mustard on the inside.
  3. Layer ham, then cheese.
  4. Close with second slice, buttered side out.
  5. Toast in a pan until golden brown.
  6. Transfer to a tray, spread extra béchamel on top, sprinkle with grated cheese.
  7. Grill until bubbling and browned.
  8. Slice, garnish with parsley, and serve hot.
